Expert Air Conditioning Repair You Can Count On
When your air conditioning system breaks down during a sweltering summer day, every minute without cooling feels like an eternity. At R. H. Witt Heating & Sheet Metal, we understand that urgency, which is why we offer 24/7 emergency service to get your system back up and running as quickly as possible. As a family owned and operated business located in Glenview, IL, founded by Richard H. Witt Jr. in 1966, we have been diagnosing and repairing air conditioning systems for decades. Our deep experience means we have encountered virtually every type of AC failure imaginable, and we bring that knowledge to every service call we make throughout North Shore and Northwest Suburbs.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, air conditioning accounts for roughly 12% of total home energy expenditures nationwide, and that figure climbs even higher in homes with aging or malfunctioning equipment. A system that is not running efficiently does not just leave you uncomfortable. It drives up your utility bills and places unnecessary strain on components that could otherwise last years longer. We use state-of-the-art computerized diagnostic equipment to identify the root cause of comfort issues, unhealthy air problems, and high utility bills so that every repair we perform addresses the actual problem rather than just the symptoms.
Our Diagnostic and Repair Process
When you call us for an air conditioning repair, our certified technicians arrive equipped to handle a comprehensive evaluation. We begin with a thorough inspection of your entire system, checking refrigerant levels, electrical connections, thermostat calibration, condensate drainage, and airflow across the evaporator and condenser coils. Many homeowners are surprised to learn that a single clogged condensate line or a failing capacitor can mimic the symptoms of a much larger system failure. Our diagnostic approach saves you money by pinpointing exactly what needs attention.
Beyond the equipment itself, we specialize in designing comfort solutions that analyze whether potential problems with the building envelope could be impacting your comfort or indoor air quality. A perfectly functioning air conditioner can still underperform if ductwork is leaking, insulation is inadequate, or air sealing around windows and doors is compromised. This holistic perspective sets our repair service apart and ensures lasting results for homeowners in Glenview, Northbrook, Highland Park, Glencoe, Winnetka, and Wilmette, IL and surrounding communities.
Common Air Conditioning Problems We Repair
Over the years, we have identified the most frequent issues that lead to service calls. Understanding these problems can help you recognize when professional repair is needed before a minor issue becomes a major breakdown.
- Refrigerant leaks cause your system to lose cooling capacity gradually, leading to warm air blowing from vents and compressor damage if left unaddressed
- Frozen evaporator coils often result from restricted airflow or low refrigerant and can shut your system down entirely
- Faulty compressors represent one of the most critical failures since the compressor is the heart of your cooling system
- Electrical control failures including worn contactors, failed capacitors, and corroded wiring that prevent the system from starting or cycling properly
- Thermostat malfunctions that cause erratic cycling, incorrect temperature readings, or complete system unresponsiveness
- Dirty or blocked condenser units that restrict heat dissipation and force the system to work harder than necessary
- Blower motor issues that reduce airflow throughout your home and create uneven temperatures from room to room
